Davidson Run

We took advantage of an unseasonably warm January day, and rode off in a new direction. Starting like we were throwing a dart at the map, we decided to ride up to Davidson, NC, home of Davidson College. We started out in the University Area in Northeast Charlotte, and navigated up W.T. Harris Blvd toward Old Statesville Road. A normally high traffic area, it was unusually quiet and we had a lot of welcomed company on the road with fellow bikers who had a similar idea that day.

After hooking the right on Old Statesville Road, we started to take a trip back in time as we rode through downtown Huntersville. The trip was peppered with old factories and storefronts that were long since closed, but give the illusion of a time when things were in full swing.

Shortly after passing through the quaint town of Cornelius, we arrived in Davidson. After parking in long Main Street, we dismounted, and walked along the storefronts toward Concord Road. There were a lot of dining options, but very few were open on Sunday, so we ended up in the Old Soda Shop. After a couple of sandwiches and drinks, we perused around town and took in some more scenery.

With nightfall approaching, it was time to get back on the road before the temperature dropped to something below our comfort. We decided to take a different trail back to Northeast Charlotte, so we headed up Concord Road all the way up to highway 29, where we rode straight back past the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Overall, a great ride where we discovered new destinations by taking a chance on the day.
